About Cardashly

Cardashly is a car dashboard app for Android, built by Psychelit, a small independent app studio. It turns a phone on a dash mount into a cockpit: a large speedometer, maps, music, radio and calling on one dark landscape screen.

Why we built it

Plenty of cars on the road have no screen at all, or one that stopped getting updates years ago. Android Auto and CarPlay only help if the car supports them. Meanwhile most drivers already carry a phone with better GPS, better maps and better music than the car it rides in. We wanted that phone to be the dashboard, in any car, without wiring or a new head unit.

How we write the guides

• From building the app. The technical details in our guides, such as how often GPS updates, where speed comes from and how OBD-II adapters behave, come from writing and testing Cardashly itself.
• We disclose our stake. Every guide says up front that we make Cardashly. When another option fits a reader better, such as Android Auto in a car that supports it, we say so.
• No paid placements. No product mentioned in a guide has paid to be there.
• Real screenshots. Images of Cardashly are captures of the actual app, not mockups.
• Dated and maintained. Each guide shows when it was published and when it last changed. If something we wrote turns out to be wrong, we fix it and update the date.

Safety first

A dashboard is only useful if it keeps your eyes on the road. We design for glances of under a second: large type, high contrast, dark colors at night, and nothing that needs typing while you drive. Read our guide to driving safely with a phone dashboard.
